The Haurangi Track is situated on the very southern point of the North Island in the Aorangi Forest Park. Itis about 30km (19miles) long and will take 2 to 4 days to complete.

The track starts at Cape Palliser and finishes back on the coast again not far from the Putangirua Pinnacles. It basically follows river beds and is well marked where it follows the ridge lines.

There are 4 basic huts along the way.

The track leads along river beds and through native podocarp forests that have regenerated after it was logged in the early days.

The most interesting feature is close to the end of the hike where you can see the Putangirua Pinnacles, a fascinating formation of rocks that was carved out by wind, rain and floods over a long period of time.

You need to arrange transport at the end of the hike back to starting point or anywhere else.
