The Waitawheta Valley Track is a loop track in the Kaimai Ranges in  the Bay of Plenty province in the North Island.



The hike starts at the Franklin Road end coming out of the Karangahake Gorge. The first part to Waitawheta Hut is about 15km (9 miles). This includes a visit to the 106m (34oft) high Ananui Falls. On the way there are some massive Kauri trees to admire.

The stay in the hut needs to be b be booked in advance. This can be done on line.

Glow worms can be seen close to the hut after dark

The hike back to the road end is only 7.5km (4.5 miles) long. It follows the old Tramway Track, which was used in the past for logging trees.
