The Routeburn Track is another alpine hike in the ‘ Nine Great Walks’ group.



The Routeburn hike New Zealand goes through both the Mt. Aspiring National Park and Fiordland Nationa Park in the southwest of the South Island..

The route is 32km (20 miles) long and takes 2 to 4 days to complete. The hike can be done both ways. The start/finish points are the top of Lake Wakatipu and the TeAnau/Milford Rd.

Both start and finish point are at about 600m (2000ft) above sea level. The highest point is Harris Saddle at about 1200m (4000ft).

Along the way there are spectacular panoramic views over mountains, lakes, forests, rivers and waterfalls.

There are shelters at each end of the track, 4 huts,2 campsites and one shelter along the way. Bookings have to be made for the huts and campsites. This can be done on line
